SEE FINISHED WALL MURAL IMAGES
DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT
Nimitz Elementary School is creating a mixed media
wall mural to decorate one side of our Guided
Learning Center (GLC) measuring 37' long by 6' in
height. The mural will depict an aquatic scene and
will include the school mascot - a dolphin.
The Nimitz mural will be unveiled at the end of
the 2006-7 school year, which coincides with
the 50th anniversary of Nimitz Elementary.
Nimitz students are using clay to create ocean life such as: starfish, jellyfish, crabs, fish and shells. They will also use "found objects" to complete parts of the mural. For example, metal objects such as nuts, bolts and washers will create an anchor in honor of Admiral Nimitz (our namesake). An octopus will be created from tile mosaics with metal washers as the tentacles. Other sea creatures and plants will be created from mosaic tiles. River stones will be used for the ocean bed.

![]() GOALS
The primary goal of the project will be to have
every student attending Nimitz create part of a
lasting art installation which will beautify
the school. This will allow our students to identify
with an historical event pertinent to our community.
Students are creating their own ceramic designs and will assist in the installation. Students, parents and teachers are working together to guide this creative project. Artwork from other schools in the community will also be included through the Euphrat Art Program (run by De Anza College.) DONATIONS
The Nimitz Elementary PTA is appealing to local
organizations for assistance with this project
in the form of: time (working with students),
expertise (guiding the development of the mural)
and financial contributions (donations to
cover costs of mosaic tiles, river stones, clay
and thin-set grout.) Donors will be recognized
with their names/organizations on specially stamped
fish. Upon completion, the community will be
invited to celebrate the unveiling of the project
and 50 years of Nimitz Elementary.
