Reflections Competition 2009-10


Here's some general info and rules regarding the Reflections Competition

The theme is Beauty is....

Deadline is Mid-October 2009 - To be Confirmed

Showcase in GLC: TBD

The categories for entries are:

  • Visual Arts
  • Photography
  • Literature
  • Musical Composition
  • Dance Choreography (new this year)
  • and Film/Video Production (new this year)

Entry levels are:

  • Primary = KG-grade 2
  • Intermediate = grade 3-5

Tasks to be completed:

  1. Event Promotion:
    • Posters displayed at school
    • flyers copied and distributed
    • notices in Dolphin Newsletter

  2. Post details on the Web Contact [James Liu] for details.

  3. Help will be needed at October 20th 2009,
    • to move all entries to the GLC
    • to sort entries into categories and entry levels.
    • to verify entries - check forms completed correctly, check entry meets rules e.g. music/dance/film compositions upto 5 minutes.
    • to create a space for our showcase of Visual Arts, Photography and Literature entries. e.g. removing/covering artwork on walls; to make signage for categories, entry levels, numbers and titles for entries;
    • to create the showcase display e.g. all entries should be blind i.e no child info displayed so these should be covered up (we may be able to work on signage prior to Oct 23. )
    If we are not completed by 5pm on Monday, we will have to finish during school Tuesday am.

  4. judges invited to view the showcase on Wednesday.
  5. Handle entries selected by Judges Thursday. Help will be needed on Thursday from 9am until we finish to handle the entries that the judges have decided should be sent to the council level of the competition.
    • take down entries
    • mount/copy/display
    • and ensure these really fit the rule criteria (we can be flexible at our level- they will not be at council level) and complete paperwork for council
    • take down the rest of the entries and store in the cupboard until after the all school assembly to replace/uncover the artwork

  6. Deliver entries to District Office. Help will be needed to deliver the entries to the District Office on V ista Drive, Cupertino on Friday 25th morning.

  7. Get Donations. Help find prizes - get donations if possible for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place for our competition.

  8. Organize the Assembly. At least three helpers will be needed at the Assembly (date to be detailed but probably after recess 10.05am on a school day) to do the following:
    • help students to stage to distribute prizes
    • to run the powerpoint (or similar) presentation
    • and maybe more tasks once we know how many entries we have and the type of entries.
