Parents will meet with teachers in their classrooms to discuss
their educational programs, learn about the school day, and find out
how to help their child be successful in school.
This is a very important evening designed for PARENTS ONLY. Children are not allowed to wait for parents on the playground or in the corridors as there will be no supervision, and the noise is a distraction to those listening to the presentations. Please make arrangements now for babysitters to watch your children at home. Thank you for your cooperation. ENROLLMENT/HEALTH CARDS
Last week your child's Enrollment/Health Card came home in the blue
folder. If you haven't done so already, please review and update
the card as soon as possible. Please make changes or additions directly
on the card and then sign and date the bottom of the card. Be sure
to include emergency contacts, so that we have family and friends
to contact in the event that you cannot be reached. It is very
important to have these returned as soon as possible and that you
notify the school office immediately if any changes take place during
the school year.

The festival will be held at the Cupertino Civic Center Field
on Torre Avenue (between the Library and Pacifica Drive). Come
cheer on our Kindergartners!

JOIN CUB SCOUTS WHERE BOYS HAVE FUN BUILDING CHARACTER
If you want your son to have some fun, excitement, outdoor opportunities,
and a chance to participate in a program where he learns how to "Do
your best" and how to be helpful to others - then we have just the
program for you!
Cub scouting is a family and neighborhood-centered program designed to support and encourage quality family involvement for boys in the first through fifth grades. Each Cub Scout learns to respect his home, country, and other people. Come with your son to our information night at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 17, at the flagpole between the GLC and school office so you can learn more about Cub Scouts. See if the Scouting program is right for your son and your family. For more information, contact Cubmasters James Liu, (408) 720-8095, jcliu@liu-family.org, and Andy Wadsworth, (408) 235-7738, fritztdog@wadsworld.com. PTA SUPPLY DRIVE UPDATE
On behalf of the PTA, Mr. Ottey, and teachers, I want to thank you
for your support of the PTA's first school supply drive. Nimitz
parents donated approximately $500 in school supplies - in only two
weeks! Although our first drive is over, a donation box will be
available inside the office and your donations are always appreciated.
Thank you again for your support and keep reading the Dolphin for
information about future supply drives. If you have any questions,
please email Debbie at johnczyz@att.net.
DO YOU KNOW IF MUSIC IS TAUGHT IN YOUR CHILD'S CLASSROOM?
Music for Minors provides music education for K-3 at Nimitz by placing
trained music docents in the classrooms. This year we need more music
docents at Nimitz in order to have a docent for each teacher. We want
every child in K - 3 to have a chance to experience a hands-on
approach to learning music including songs, games, rhythm and movement
activities, basic music theory and listening to music.
The trainings are FUN and the only qualifications are that you enjoy singing, like working with groups of children and can be available to teach one thirty-minute class per week throughout the school year. You are not too late to begin the training, which is offered only in the fall. The training begins on Tuesday, September 15th and is twice a week through mid-November. If you want to get more involved in your child's classroom, and you want to make sure music is taught in your child's classroom, do consider becoming a music docent. For more information, email me, Kathleen Virmani at kvirmani@aol.com or call 408-732-9598 (press # to skip the greeting) and leave a message for me. You can also call Music for Minors directly at 650-237-9130 and say you would like to become a music docent at Nimitz. The MFM office is open Mon-Thurs. You may call the Programs Director, Jean Tyan at 650-619-6842. For more information on Music for Minors, please go to the website: www.mfm.org -Kathleen Virmani, Music for Minors Docent and Liaison for Nimitz |
