BEFORE YOU MAKE TRAVEL PLANS
At the end of the school year, a student must be
in attendance on the last day of school to retain
his/her place on the roster for the following
year. For this school year, students must be in
school on June 12, 2009, to retain their space for
the 2009/10 school year. At the beginning of the
school year, a student must be in attendance on
the first day of school or they will not retain
their place on the roster. When you are making
travel plans, please consider the possible
ramifications. If you have any questions, please
contact Student Assignment at (408) 252-3000, ext
110.
Students may donate
change, bills, and/or checks payable to the
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and bring them to
his/her classroom. The fundraiser will end this
Friday, March 13th.
On this Friday, March 13th, we will be holding a special event as a final fundraiser for Pennies for Patients. At 12:30pm, we will be taping our Kindergarten teacher, Mr. Morwood, to a wall. Duct tape will be sold for $1.00 a foot. Be sure to bring some money on Friday to help support Pennies for Patients and stick Mr. Morwood to the wall.
Order forms are available through your child's
teacher or in the school office. Please attach your
check payable to NIMITZ ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
to the order form.

"Beside the Book! What else can students do to
meet their yearning for learning more
mathematics...?" Thursday, March 19, 2009 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Collins Elementary School, GLC 10300 N. Blaney Avenue Cupertino, CA 95014 No RSVP Needed District students and their parents are invited to participate in the final installment of the Mathematics Speaker Series. The previous speakers have been focusing on middle school students. The target audience for this presentation is students in grades four and five who are eager to learn more, deeper mathematics (to go Beside the Book!) and their parents; interested sixth grade students and parents are also welcome. The speaker will be Joshua Zucker, a very talented and knowledgeable teacher whose accomplishments in the field of mathematics have been recognized both in his tenure as a writer for the national MATHCOUNTS competition and as the Director of the Julia Robinson Mathematics Festival. Mr. Zucker discovered his love for number theory at Dr. Arnold Ross's summer program at Ohio State University many years ago. As a student, he was invited to the US Math Olympiad Summer Program and was a member of the first US Physics Olympiad team as well as a top-10 scorer on the Putnam. Joshua is an excellent presenter who will challenge students with insightful, intriguing problems and offer parents words of wisdom about math education that will help them work with their sons and daughters in productive ways. The Speaker Series is part of the district's Math Initiative Plan and is sponsored by the Cupertino Educational Endowment Foundation (CEEF) and a grant from Microsoft Corporation. ADULT AND COMMUNITY EDUCATION- CITIZENSHIP CLASSES The Sunnyvale-Cupertino Adult and Community Education will be offering two evening citizenship classes. These two classes are an ESL/Citizenship Preparation Class, for those students who are at an intermediate level of English proficiency, and a Citizenship Preparation Class, for students who are advanced English speakers. Both of these free classes are on Monday and Wednesday evenings and start on Monday, March 23, 2009. The ESL/Citizenship Class hours are from 6:30-9:30 p.m., and will be held in room 82 at Fremont High School. The Citizenship Class hours are from 6:30- 8:30 p.m., and will be held in room 83 at Fremont High School. In these classes students will learn about American history and government, fill out the N-400 application, and practice for their oral interview. In addition, there will be several speakers who will talk about the naturalization process, local government, and voting. For all of these classes, students should register in class. For more information about these classes or for ESL/Citizenship at Home, please call (408) 522-2703. | |||||
