PARENTING CLASS IN JANUARY
Pat Belvel will be teaching a class on parenting skills beginning on
Tuesday, January 20th and running for five sessions. Classes will be
held from 6:30 to 8:30 PM in the GLC on Tuesday nights through February
24th. (There will be no class during the February vacation.)
This class focuses on positive parenting skills and provides specific strategies for dealing with problem situations. Pat taught this class here at Nimitz last year, and it was received very positively. A flier with more information with a sign-up sheet was sent home last week and is available in the office. Be sure to return the form as soon as possible as space for the class is limited, and it will be open to other schools in the district.
If you would like to order your child's class photo taken on Halloween
this year, please fill in the order form in the office.

WHY IS YOUR CHILD THANKFUL?
The children's book, The Secret of Saying Thanks, ends with this
thought: "We don't give thanks because we're happy. We are happy because
we give thanks."
Thinking about the reasons your family is thankful is also a great way to get your child writing. First, brainstorm with your child. What are the reasons he is thankful? Make a list. Then write each reason on a separate piece of paper. Your child might say, "I am thankful for our dog." Now have him think of other things he could say about your pet. He may love the fact that the dog sleeps on his bed. He may like the dog's curly tail. Ask him to write more reasons he loves his pet. He may also want to draw a picture of the dog. During the month, repeat this activity with all the reasons you are thankful. Post these illustrated stories for the whole family to read. Send them to friends and family. -Reprinted from Parents make the difference!® INDEPENDENT STUDY
If you plan to be away from school for a minimum of five school days
and a maximum of ten school days, please contact your child's teacher
and the office at least one week ahead of your departure date to arrange
for a special Independent Study (IS) Contract. This way your child can
keep up with class.
