This exciting Family Science Night explores the science of amusement parks.
Children and parents together will explore gravity as they create miniature
roller coasters, experience the power of springs as they make their own
pinball machines, and test their strength while learning about air and
water power. A big thank you to the Nimitz PTA for funding this event.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Share a favorite dish, dessert, or drink from your culture (including
American) with all the students during their lunch on Thursday,
November 6th. After the students finish their lunch period
(around 12:45), students' families are invited to come and share
the remaining food.
If you are interested in volunteering to help setup, serve, or clean up at the Thanksgiving Feast, you can let us know through the flyer or online at http://www.nimitzpta.org/feast/ If you have questions, please email diversity@mrjim.com. -Nimitz Diversity Committee

Please be sure that costumes are comfortable, provide good visibility,
and are easy for your child to remove. All costumes must be non-violent
in nature and follow our Zero Tolerance policy. Weapons (guns, swords,
knives, martial arts weapons, etc.), fake blood, and hairspray containers
must be left at home. Children must bring a set of school clothes in
a bag, clearly labeled with name and room number.
The drive will begin on Monday, November 3rd and run through Friday,
November 14th. Students and parents can bring non-perishable food items
to the bins located in the GLC. Some examples of food items are canned
food, cereal, sugar, pasta, peanut butter, flour, etc. Please do not
bring milk, frozen foods or items that require refrigeration. Please check
expiration dates before submitting your donations.
DIWALI LUNCHEON
The entire Nimitz staff would like to thank our Asian Indian community
for treating us to a delicious lunch buffet in celebration of Diwali.
The GLC was beautifully decorated and there were over 50 delightful dishes
to choose from!

If we don't get more help, we will
have to limit the days the program is offered. If you are available to
punch cards or help supervise students every week or every other week,
please email/call Tracy Burriss at
burriss_tracy@cupertino.k12.ca.us or ph. (408) 732-4563.
LEARNING DAY
On Monday, our teachers attended a workshop given by Damon Lopez,
principal of Los Penasquitos Elementary School in San Diego. His school
has very similar demographics to Nimitz and has successfully implemented
RTI. The presentation focused on collaborative learning and assessments.
Our staff appreciates the time for staff development. It offers the
valuable opportunity to learn new strategies to support student learning.
A strong value system can empower students to make educated decisions that will make them able to say "No" to the peer pressures involved in drug abuse. Many thanks to PTA for supporting this program.
Please look in next week's blue folder for the make up order form.

FREE ADULT ENGLISH CLASSES
It is not too late to join the CBET program! CBET (Community Based English
Tutorial) are free adult English classes held here at Nimitz. Classes are
every Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:15-11:40am. The language skills
learned in the class will enable participants to help their child with
homework, participate in school activities, and volunteer at the school
site. The purpose of the CBET Program is to provide free or subsidized
programs of adult English language instruction to parents or other members
of the community who pledge to provide personal English language tutoring
to English learners. If you are interested, please fill out the
application in the office.
