The purpose of Back-to-School Night is to begin the important
communication link between home and school. Parents will meet
with teachers in their classrooms to discuss their educational
programs, learn about the school day, and find out how to help
their child be successful in school.
This is a very important evening designed for PARENTS ONLY. Children are not allowed to wait for parents on the playground or in the corridors as there will be no supervision, and the noise is a distraction to those listening to the presentations. Please make arrangements now for babysitters to watch your children at home. Thank you for your cooperation. FREE AND REDUCED LUNCHES
If your child was receiving a free or reduced lunch last year, your
child will continue to receive the free or reduced lunch until
Friday, September 26th. You need to reapply for the free and
reduced lunch before September 26th in order to receive these
lunches this year. If you do not turn in the application, your
child will need to pay for their lunch. Also, if there is a
situation that you may now qualify for a free or reduced lunch,
please be sure to turn in an application as well. Lunch applications
are printed in the back of the Opening Day Packet booklet and extra
copies are available in the office.
NIMITZ TEACHERS HONORED
Two of our Nimitz teachers were recognized at the CUSD Board Meeting
at Nimitz on September 9th. Steve Oshiro and Rita Wubker received tenure
as teachers in our district. We are grateful for the contributions
they make in educating our students.

VISITING CAMPUS
ALL VISITORS ON CAMPUS or entering
classrooms as volunteers or meeting with teachers MUST sign in
at the office and obtain a visitor's badge when school is in
session. For the safety of all, we need to know who is on campus.
The only exceptions are at student arrival and dismissal times. If
you are taking your child out of school for any reason, ALWAYS sign
your child out from school through the office and back in when
he/she returns.
Please remember that adults volunteering in any capacity, including noontime supervisors, classroom volunteers and field trip drivers, must have a current (dated within the last four years) negative tuberculin test on file with the school. The Intradermal Mantoux PPD Skin Test is given at most medical clinics. A voucher from the Cupertino Medical Clinic is available in the office. The test costs $15.00. Please bring documentation of your negative PPD Skin Test or X-Ray to the school office as soon as possible. Thank you! PREPAY FOR SCHOOL LUNCHES
Locate the yellow menu and the blue pre-pay lunch envelope inside
your child's packet, which came home the first day of school.
Complete the information on the blue lunch pre-pay envelope. Record
your child's PIN somewhere handy. Enclose a check and return the
envelope to school. Post the menu on the refrigerator for reference.
Help your child memorize their PIN.
NIMITZ PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
All Nimitz students can benefit from parent volunteer help.
If you have a few extra minutes, consider helping the Running Club,
Copy Center, Library, Crosswalk Guards, etc. Some volunteer positions
can be done whenever you have a few minutes (like after student
drop-off or before pick-up) and do not require any commitment other
than an initial training. If you have not already,
please sign up online at
www.nimitzpta.org> or fill out a
Nimitz Volunteer Form in the office.

SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL UPDATE
Our School Site Council met on September 11th. The following was discussed:
IMPROVE YOUR CHILD'S SCHOOL ATTENDANCE
Research shows that attendance is the single most important factor
in school success. Here's how you can improve your child's school
attendance.
It's that time of year again when all eScrip members must renew
their commitment to shopping at Safeway. Safeway requires all eScrip
supporters to renew their commitment to them every year. For
Nimitz to continue receiving your contributions made through your
grocery shopping at Safeway, YOU MUST RENEW YOUR COMMITMENT BY
NOVEMBER 1ST. It's so easy to renew! Choose one of
these 3 easy ways!

DISTRICT NEWS
PARENT PHOTOS & VIDEO GUIDELINES
The Cupertino Union School District currently allows parents to capture
audio recordings, images, and/or video footage of their children in
the classroom and at school events. The district believes that allowing
this access is an important part of involving parents in the education
of their children. While the district understands the desire for parents
to share this information with others, we request that all parents be
respectful of the privacy of other families and the district's policies
for protecting student identity.
Therefore, any audio recordings, images, and/or video footage of students obtained during school hours or at any other school related activity should be used only for your private viewing and not be posted or published online. This guideline is consistent with the school district's policies and we would appreciate your cooperation. As new technology continues to emerge, the district is balancing the use of innovative technology at the school site with the protection of the identity of our students. DIWALI FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS
