GOODBYES
As announced at Monday's Flagpole meeting, some of our staff members will be leaving Nimitz. Mrs. Baldwin, Ms. McCarthy, and Ms. Yeh were each selected to be district resource teachers for the English Language Development (ELD) Program. They will be sharing their expertise and passion for teaching with ELD teachers from across the district. Ms. Yeh has been assigned to Nimitz and another district school, so she will actually be back at Nimitz in her new role.

Mrs. Chang will be returning to Garden Gate School, where she taught before coming to Nimitz. She decided to work half time next year, and there was a teacher there who is able to job share with her.

Coach Jim will also be leaving Nimitz, as starting next year the district will be providing credentialed teachers for the upper grade P.E. program. Jim is actually a retired firefighter, so he will continue to enjoy his free time and hopes to stay at Nimitz to teach in our after school enrichment program.

Debbie Bakker, one of our Barton Reading Specialists, will also be leaving Nimitz. Mrs. Bakker is getting her Masters Degree in Art and hopes to become a design specialist.

And finally, Mrs. Conley is retiring from teaching after 20 years of service to Nimitz. Most recently she has been our Intervention Specialist, working with attendance and behavior issues and helping out wherever needed across the school. Mrs. Conley was also a 4th grade teacher at Nimitz for several years.

We wish all of our departing staff the best as they move on from Nimitz. They will be missed!

Fortunately, because all of these departures have been known for some time, I have already hired replacement teachers for each of our openings. Most of our new teachers are experienced teachers and expressed a desire to come to Nimitz.

UNITY
I dreamed I stood in a studio and watched two sculptors there.
The clay they used was a young child's mind and they fashioned it with care.
One was a teacher; the tools she used were books and music and art.
One was a parent with a guiding hand and gentle loving heart.
And when at last their work was done, they were proud of what they had wrought.
For the things they had worked into the child could never be sold or bought.
And each agreed she would have failed if she had worked alone.
For behind the parent stood the school, and behind the teachers stood the home.
