If you are interested in having your child's portrait taken, please
have your child bring the order envelope to school on Thursday, May 29th.
We are in need of two parents to help with pictures. If you are
available, please call the office at 736-2180.
Our teachers and students have been preparing a wonderful music program
including square dancing. All students need to stay for the entire
performance, as there is an all school sing for the finale. Parents are
encouraged to join in too!
You will be receiving a notification from Mrs. Gallatin
regarding any books that have not been returned. If your child
cannot find the book, they will be charged for the lost book.
Books are very expensive and we cannot afford to absorb the cost
of lost or destroyed books. Students will not receive a report card
until all library charges are paid. If the book is found after you
have paid, your money will be refunded. Thank you for your understanding
regarding this matter.

Any medication that remains after the close of school will be discarded.
If your children are attending summer school and will need the
medication during the shortened day, please take it to that school
site's main office on the first day of classes.
LOST AND FOUNDIf it will be necessary for your child to receive medication during the school day next year, please pick up a blue Medication Authorization form at the school office before the last day of school, June 12th. In order for either prescription or over-the-counter medications to be given at school, both the doctor and the parent must sign the form. When completed, bring the Medication Administration form and the medication (in the original container) to the secretaries in the school office. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me: voice-mail 408-252-3000 ext. 475 or email waugh_katy@cupertino.k12.ca.us . Have a happy and healthy summer!
With the onset of warm weather, our lost and found is overflowing
with sweatshirts, jackets, and coats. Please remember to check the
bags located near the restrooms. Any unclaimed items will be donated
to charity on the last day of school.

SSC UPDATE
The SSC met May 8th and the following items were discussed:
TAKE HOME READERS
Thank you to all the volunteers who have kept this program running
all year. The last day to check out books is Friday, May 30th. All
books must be returned the following week.
-Pam Thomas
Kids love being able to go outside for recess (teachers love it, too!)
And parents love longer daytime hours and the many recreational activities
available to us here in Northern California. However, risks are present
with the sunshine. Studies have shown that most of the sun damage which
leads to skin cancer is acquired during childhood. The facts speak for
themselves:
|
Your school nurses strongly recommend sunscreen
use as part of your family's sun protection program. Sunscreen should be:
In January 2003, SB 1632 became law. This bill states that schools may allow pupils the use of sunscreen during the school day without a physician's note or prescription. Students should supply their own sunscreen and keep it in their book bag or backpack. Students should not share sunscreen. Sun protective lip balm is also recommended. Protecting your child from sun damage now will reduce his or her risk for developing skin cancer later in life. Please be sure to encourage sun safety at home while we do the same here at school.
END OF THE YEAR ATTENDANCE POLICY
Students must be in attendance on the last day of school to guarantee
their place in the district for the following school year. When the student
returns, if space is available at his or her school, the student will
be reinstated. If no space is available, the student will be assigned
to another school in the district where space is available. If the student
is ill, parents must notify the school of the absence and provide
documentation.
MCAULIFFE ALTERNATIVE PROGRAMWhen you are making travel plans, please consider the possible ramifications. If you have any questions, please contact Student Assignment at (408) 252-3000, Extension 110.
After the close of the open enrollment period, there are still a few
spaces available for incoming first and second graders for the
2008-2009 school year at the McAuliffe Alternative Program. McAuliffe is
a K-8 parent participation, experiential program based on an education
philosophy that emphasizes the needs of the whole child. To sign up
for the school tour on June 3, 2008, please contact the McAuliffe
school office at (408) 253-4696, Extension 100. Additional information
