BEFORE YOU MAKE TRAVEL PLANS
At the end of the school year, a student must be in attendance on
the last day of school to retain his/her place on the roster for the
following year. For this school year, students must be in school
on June 12, 2008, to retain their space for the 2008/09 school year.
At the beginning of the school year, a student must be in attendance
on the first day of school or they will not retain their place on the
roster. When you are making travel plans, please consider the
possible ramifications. If you have any questions, please contact
Student Assignment at (408) 252-3000, ext 110.
SUMMER WEATHER IS HERE! DRESS CODE REMINDERS
This is to remind all parents and students that our dress code requires:

We received 241 responses, which exceeds our participation from last year.
Many parents have expressed an interest in viewing the results of the
survey. The results are available online at:
http://www.nimitzpta.org/parentsurvey/
by clicking on "see current survey results." In order to view the
results, you will need to follow the online instructions to register
for a PTA password. This is required so that we can limit the viewing
of these results to our Nimitz parents only. If you prefer a paper copy
of the results, they are available in the office. The School Site Council
received valuable information from this survey that will be taken into
consideration as we plan for next year. Thank you!
STAR TESTING CONTINUES
All students in grades 2-5 have been taking the STAR Test, which
continues through May 9th. Please be sure your students get a good
night's sleep, eat a healthy breakfast each morning and are on time
for school. All we ask is that they try their best.

We received many nonfiction books related to our curriculum such as
biographies, books about animals, science, Native Americans, other
countries, national parks, insects and planets, just to name a few.
We also received a fantastic collection of fiction books. If you would
like to look at some of the collection, stop by and check out Miss
Kyle's bookcase.
If you are thinking about ways to get more involved in your child's
classroom, and if you are a music lover, please consider becoming an
MFM docent. Call Cathy Lampman, our school's MFM liaison, at
650-854-5004 to set up a time for a classroom visit. Training for
docents takes place in the fall each year. It includes basic music
theory, songs and games, rhythm and movement activities, along with
lesson planning, and other classroom skills.
Find out more by attending our Volunteer Information Meeting.
Thursday, May 8, 11:00 AM-12:00 PM If you can't make this meeting, but are interested in becoming a music docent, please call Music for Minors at 650-237-9130 or email jean@mfm.org or visit our website at www.mfm.org.
CUSD STRATEGIC PLAN 2008-2011
The Cupertino Union School District is in the process of developing
the 2008-2011 Strategic Plan. This document identifies the main areas
that the district will be focusing on for the next three school years.
The Board of Education would like to solicit feedback from the community
regarding the plan. Interested community members are invited to provide
their input during two public hearings to be held on April 22, 2008 a
nd May 13, 2008. Both of these hearings will be part of the regularly
scheduled Board of Education meetings and will start at 6:30 p.m.
The May 13, 2008 Board of Education meeting will be held at
Collins Elementary School in Cupertino.
A draft version of the 2008-2011 Strategic Plan is available on the district's website at www.cupertino.k12.ca.us, or by calling Jeremy Nishihara at (408) 252-3000, Extension 323. FREE SUMMER SESSION - ADULT ENGLISH CLASSES
The Cupertino Union School District's "Community Based English
Tutorial" (CBET) Program is once again sponsoring a four-week summer
session of adult English classes. It will be offered at two of our
elementary summer school sites: De Vargas and Garden Gate Schools and
one middle school site - Miller Middle School. Each class is scheduled
from June 23 - July 18, 2008 and will meet daily from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.
The applications for the CBET Program are available at
www.cupertino.k12.ca.us.
Space is limited, so sign up now. Preference will be given to parents
with children in English Language Development programs at their
schools. The CBET classes are not mandatory for parents.
|
The purpose of the CBET Program is to provide free or subsidized programs
of adult English language instruction to parents or other members of
the community who pledge to provide personal English language tutoring
to English learners. Since these classes are for adults only, no
childcare will be provided. Proposition 227 provides funding for this
program. In accordance with Education Code Section 315 and Title 5 of
the California Code of Regulations Section 11305, these funds may be used
for direct program services, community notification processes,
transportation services, and background checks required of the tutors
who volunteer in public schools settings.
