PARENT REPRESENTATIVE NEEDED FOR ENGLISH LEARNERS
We are looking for an ELD parent to represent Nimitz Elementary School at the District English Language Advisory Council (DELAC) meetings. The meetings will be held at the district office on January 23rd, March 19th and May 14th at 4:00pm. Please contact the office if you are interested.

SEE'S CANDY FUNDRAISER
This time of year we are encouraged to embrace each other and what better way to celebrate friendships than by buying See's candies for your friends, co-workers, and relatives, with the added bonus that 35-50% of the revenue is donated back to Nimitz students. It's a win-win-win situation!
You get chocolate, we get cash, and your friends and loved ones love you more! The Nimitz PTA runs this annual fundraiser to help offset the costs of our 4th graders' "5th grade science camp." Yummy! Look for the order forms and flyers in this week's blue folder.

TRAFFIC SAFETY
Please stop at the crosswalk when children/parents are present. One of our teachers was nearly hit last week in the crosswalk on Cascade. Please remind your student to follow the directions of the crossing guard.

COLD WEATHER REMINDER
Now that the weather is getting colder, please send your child to school with a jacket, sweatshirt, or extra layer of clothing. Whether at physical education, recess, or lunch, students have outdoor activities unless it is unusually cold, windy, or rainy.
PARENTING CLASS RETURNS
Pat Belvel will be teaching a class on parenting skills beginning on Monday, January 28 and running for five weeks. Classes will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the GLC on Monday nights through March 3. (There will be no class during the February vacation.)

This class focuses on positive parenting skills and provides specific strategies for dealing with problem situations. Pat taught this class here at Nimitz two years ago, and it was received very positively.

A flier with more information and a sign-up form was sent home last week and is available in the office. Be sure to return the form as soon as possible as space for the class is limited, and it will be open to other schools in the district.

LIBRARY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
If you have twenty minutes to an hour once a week or every other week, we need people to help shelve the books. We will be glad to show you how to do this. In order for the kids to enjoy the library, the books need to be shelved in a timely manner. If you can help out, please contact Lenora Louie at lenora-pta@fortun8.com or 408-737-7787.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
Kindergarten registration begins on February 4, 2008. Any child who will be five years old on or before December 2, 2008 is eligible to attend kindergarten for the 2008-09 school year. Registration requirements:
