NEWS FROM PTA

If you are interested in finding out more about Nimitz PTA, please visit our website at www.nimitzpta.org. You will find all the latest information on PTA news and events. Please join us at our first PTA meeting on Monday, September 17th at 7:30pm n the GLC.

TRAFFIC SAFETY
While dropping your children off in front of the school, pull all the way forward to the student valet. Please have backpacks, lunches, and other belongings in the car, not in the trunk.
This will help expedite traffic flow during the morning rush. Please do not drop children off in the coned area nearest the kindergarten playground.

NEWSLETTER BY EMAIL
Parents who have signed up as part of the parent email group will receive the Dolphin Newsletter by email instead of a paper copy starting in October. This will help the school save on duplicating costs and legal-sized blue paper. This email group is used only by the school and PTA to announce activities on campus. Also, the group will not be shared with anyone outside of school. It's not too late to sign up. Please fill out the green form that was included in the first day packet and return it to your child's teacher by Friday, September 14th. Additional forms are available in the office.

LIBRARY TO OPEN SOON!
We expect to open the library on the fourth week of September. If you have twenty minutes to an hour once a week or every other week, we need people to help shelve the books.
We will be glad to show you how to do this. Even if you can only help for a limited amount of time, we would love to see you. Please think about what this will mean to your child. For questions, please call Mrs. Gallatin at 736-2180 ext. 150. or signup using the Nimitz Online Volunteer Form.

RUNNING CLUB NEEDS YOUR HELP
Thanks to the efforts of Mr. Horn and Nimitz parent and teacher, Tracy Burriss, we have a Nimitz Running Club where students can take daily laps around the field during lunchtime.
This helps keep our students in shape as they strive to reach their goal. Last year our Nimitz students ran over 13,000 miles! This program is not possible without parent support. We need parents to help out during lunch (11:25-12:45) Monday through Friday. If you are available to punch cards or help supervise students, please email/call Tracy Burriss at burriss_tracy@cupertino.k12.ca.us or ph. (408) 732-4563. The Running Club would not be possible without the help of many parent volunteers who help keep things moving!

Parents! You are welcome to join the children on the track for some mid-day exercise. Please check in at the office and get a visitor's pass and then come on out to the track to walk, jog, or run with the children.

MUSIC LOVERS WANTED
Join a dedicated team of volunteers at Nimitz who teach music education in grades K-3. You don't have to be a trained musician.
To become a docent, you just need to enjoy singing, like working with children, and be available to teach 1/2 hour per week. Music for Minors provides extensive training. You will learn everything to teach music in your child's classroom once a week. This is a rewarding, fun experience for you while you get to enrich the music education of your child and their classmates. Please consider stepping forward to volunteer for this wonderful program. Call Cathy Lampman at 650-851-5252 or Music for Minors at 650-237-9130. More information is also available at http://www.mfm.org.
