ACE AND ENRICHMENT CLASSES
Our after school programes will begin on Monday, September 10th. The first session will run for five weeks, concluding on Friday, October 12th.

We have two programs: ACE, which is for students who need academic support, and Enrichment, which are fun, extracurricular classes. Students must be recommended by their teacher for ACE. Enrichment classes are open to all 1st through 5th grade students. ACE classes are Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons. Enrichment classes will be held one day a week on Monday, Wednesday or Thursday afternoons.

Most Enrichment classes cost $25 for the session, but some classes (i.e. cooking) may include an additional charge for supplies.

Sign-Ups for Enrichment will take place next. Watch for the flier coming home after school.

We need more Enrichment teachers! If you have an idea for a class and at least one afternoon a week free, please contact Mr. Jones as soon as possible.

NOON YARD SUPERVISORS NEEDED
We are in need of noon duty supervisors for our playground Monday-Friday for an hour and a half from 11:15am - 12:45pm. It is a paid position at $8.15/hr. This is an opportunity to work with wonderful children, while helping the school maintain a safe and happy environment. If you are interested in being a yard duty supervisor, please contact the office.

LABOR DAY HOLIDAY

SCHOOL PROCEDURES
During the first weeks of school, we spend time with the students reviewing the rules for safety and good manners that help everyone feel welcome and safe. This is also a good time for parents to review procedures that support a safe learning environment.
  • Students are not to be on campus until 7:45 a.m. This is a safety issue as there is no supervision on the yard until that time.
  • Student need to arrive at school in time to be in class at 8:00 a.m. Students arriving after 8:00 a.m. will be sent to the office for tardy slips.
  • Please remember to pick your children up promptly:
      Grades K-3     2:00 p.m.
      Grades 4-5     2:30 p.m.
  • ON TUESDAYS ALL GRADES K-5 ARE DISMISSED AT 1:25 P.M.
  • Students are to go directly home at dismissal. Students may not play on the playground to wait for siblings.

BLUE FOLDERS
Please review your child's work sent home in the weekly "blue folder" on Thursdays, sign it and return it every Friday. We have found this to be one of the best forms of communication between the classroom teacher and home. Please feel free to write down your concerns in the folder and the teacher will get back to you with a response. It is important that you work with your child's teacher to assure a successful year for you student.

Thanks to the efforts of Mr. Horn and Nimitz parent and teacher, Tracy Burriss, we have a Nimitz Running Club where students can take daily laps around the field during lunchtime. Thsi helps keep out students in shape as they strive to reach their goal.
Last year our Nimitz students ran over 13,000 miles! This program is not possible without parent support. We need parents to help out during lunch (11:25-12:45) Monday through Friday. If you are available to punch cards or help supervise students, please email/call Tracy Burriss at tcburriss@yahoo.com or ph. (408) 732-4563. The Running Club would not be possible without the help of many parent volunteers who help keep things moving!

Parents! You are welcome to join the children on the track for some mid-day exercise. Please check in at the office and get a visitor's pass and then come on out to the track to walk, jog, or run with the children.

MUSIC LOVERS WANTED
Join a dedicated team of volunteers at Nimitz who teach music education in grades K-3. You don't have to be a trained musician.
To become a docent, you just need to enjoy singing, like working with children, and be available to teach 1/2 hour per week. Music for Minors provides extensive training. You will learn everything to teach music in your child's classroom once a week. This is a rewarding, fun experience for you while you get to enrich the music education of your child and their classmates. Please consider stepping forward to volunteer for this wonderful program. Call Cathy Lampman at 650-851-5252 or Music for Minors at 650-237-9130. More information is also available at http://www.mfm.org.
