TRAFFIC SAFETY
Please slow down and use extra caution when driving your students to and from school. Please also be respectful of our teachers who are supervising the parking lot and the traffic on Cascade.
They are doing the best they can to keep the children safe and need your cooperation, if not your respect and admiration!

In the mornings when you are dropping off your children, please have their backpacks, lunch, and other belongings in the car, not in the trunk. This will help expedite traffic flow during the morning rush. Please remind your student to follow the directions of the crossing guard.

NIMITZ CULTURAL FESTIVAL
Nimitz Diversity Committee will present a Cultural Arts Celebration on Friday, June 1st from 12.30pm to 2pm in the GLC.

SUMMER PROGRAMS
As the summer approaches, the school office receives many brochures and flyers for classes, camps and workshops. If you're looking for a summer program for your child, be sure to stop by the office and take a look at these opportunities.

MEDICATIONS IN THE OFFICE
Katy Waugh, RN, PHN, CNS

If you have stored your child's medications in the Nimitz Health Office, please make arrangements to take them home on the last day of school. Any medication that remains after the close of school will be discarded.
If your children are attending summer school and will need the medication during the shortened day, please take it to that school site's main office on the first day of classes.

If it will be necessary for your child to receive medication during the school day next year, please pick up a blue Medication Authorization form at the school office before the last day of school, June 15th.

In order for either prescription or over-the-counter medications to be given at school, both the doctor and the parent must sign the form. When completed, bring the Medication Administration form and the medication (in the original container) to the secretaries in the school office.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me: voice-mail 408-252-3000 ext. 475 or E-mail waugh_katy@cupertino.k12.ca.us. Have a happy and healthy summer!

LOST AND FOUND
With the onset of warm weather, our lost and found is overflowing with sweatshirts, jackets, and coats. Please remember to check the bags located near the restrooms. Any unclaimed items will be donated to charity on the last day of school.

LOST LIBRARY BOOKS
Just a reminder! All books must be turned in by Friday, June 1st.
Please take a moment and search under the beds and on student's bookshelves for any overdue books from the library or lost classroom textbooks. You will be receiving a notification from Mrs. Gallatin regarding any books that have not been returned. If your child cannot find the book, they will be charged for the lost book. Books are very expensive and we cannot afford to absorb the cost of lost or destroyed books. Students will not receive a report card until all library charges are paid. If the book is found after you have paid, your money will be refunded. Thank you for your understanding regarding this matter.

KINDERGARTEN SUMMER PLAYGROUP
Nimitz School along with the Nimitz PTA will be hosting a series of playgroup sessions for incoming Kindergarteners. Playgroups will meet weekly, on Saturdays from 10am to noon beginning July 21st through August 18th. Kids can share arts & crafts and play games and older siblings are welcome. We need a volunteer for each session to assist with the playgroup. If you can volunteer to arrive 15 minutes before the session and stay a few minutes afterwards or donate simple refreshments, please send an email to playgroup@nimitzpta.org. PLAN FOR SUMMER READING ACTIVITIES
WITH YOUR CHILD

Does your child have a summer reading plan? If not, try the following steps to make a plan together:
  • Choose different books and magazines that complement your child's interests.
  • Remind your child that summer reading strengthens vocabulary skills and builds knowledge.
  • Schedule reading activities for when your child most enjoys reading. Read at home, on vacation and in the library.
  • Keep a list of favorite book titles.
  • Sponsor "reading times" and let your child invite a friend or two. Reward their efforts with a special treat.

STUDENT LUNCH ACCOUNTS

Students moving to a new school within Cupertino Union School District (CUSD) or from elementary to middle school for the 2007-2008 school year will have their remaining school lunch account balances automatically transferred to their new school cafeteria. Money balances left in all student lunch accounts at the end of the current school year will remain in each student's name under his/her personal account and if the student moves, will follow the student to his/her new school within CUSD. On the first day of school in August, all students will be reissued their cafeteria personal identification number (PIN). Students who have moved to new schools or middle schools will be assigned a new cafeteria PIN for use during meal times. Newly assigned PIN s are connected to student's existing cafeteria lunch account balances. Parents with children moving out of the school district may request a refund of their child's existing cafeteria account balances by contacting the district Student Nutrition Services Department at (408) 252-3000, Extension 302.

DO YOU FEEL YOUR CHILD HAS A
SPEECH OR LANGUAGE DELAY?

The Cupertino Early Intervention Preschool offers a special education program for preschool children between the ages of three (3) and five (5) who demonstrate a significant delay in speech and/or language development. The program is provided through federal funding at no cost to parents. Immediate openings are available. Parents, teachers, or child care providers interested in having a child tested may call Pupil Services at the District Office, 252-3000, Extension 119 to receive an information packet. Packets must be received by June 8, 2007, to be considered for summer testing. If your child will be five (5) before December 2, 2007, contact your home school for testing in the fall.
