OPEN HOUSE IS TONIGHT, APRIL 12th
6:00-7:00 PM

Come and tour your child's classroom at Open House on Thursday, April 12th from 6:00-7:00 pm. Open House is a special time for your child to share all the wonderful projects, essays, artwork and assignments that they have been working on this school year. We hope to see you there!

BOOK FAIR TONIGHT DURING OPEN HOUSE!
Today, April 12th is the last day to shop at the Scholastic Book Fair. The Book Fair, located in the GLC, will be open from 5-8 pm during Open House.
Children must be with a parent to shop at the Book Fair. The Book Fair offers kids access to hundreds of exciting books at affordable prices, builds classroom libraries through Classroom Wish Lists, and helps the Nimitz PTA raise much-needed funds for library materials. Come support our school and put more books into students' hands to encourage their love of reading!

BEFORE YOU MAKE TRAVEL PLANS
At the end of the school year a student must be in attendance on the last day of school to retain his/her place on the roster for the following year. For this school year, students must be in school on June 15, 2007, to retain their space for the 2007/08 school year. At the beginning of the school year, a student must be in attendance on the first day of school or they will not retain their place on the roster. When you are making your travel plans, please consider the possible ramifications.
PARENT SURVEY DEADLINE EXTENDED!
It is still not too late to take the Nimitz parent survey. We have extended the deadline to submit your survey to Friday, April 13th to make sure we hear from as many of you as possible. The survey is available online in English, Spanish and Chinese at
http://www.nimitzpta.org/parentsurvey/

Don't miss out on this opportunity to provide us with valuable feedback about our school. Your input makes a difference in how we evaluate our programs. Please fill out the survey for each child enrolled at Nimitz School. Your answers will be completely confidential, since you provide no personal data. Paper copies in English, Spanish and Chinese can be obtained by filling out the green form available in the office. Thanks to those of you who have already completed your survey!

SPIRITWEAR SALE - LAST CHANCE THIS YEAR!
Orders for Nimitz Spiritwear tee shirts are due tomorrow, Friday, April 13th. Forms were included in students' Blue Folders and will also be available outside the GLC at Open House tonight.
Don't miss your chance to get a gold tie-die shirt with the Nimitz Dolphin logo or get a white tee-shirt (with the Nimitz Dolphin logo in blue & gold), which can be a great class souvenir for end-of-year autographs by classmates and teachers! Both tee shirt styles are on display in the office window. All Spiritwear orders are due tomorrow, Friday, April 13th.

MUSIC LOVERS WANTED
Music For Minors provides music education for children at Nimitz in grades kindergarten to 3rd. We need your help to keep music alive at our school!
If you are thinking about ways to get more involved in your child's classroom, and if you are a music lover, please consider becoming an MFM docent. Visit a music class soon and enjoy seeing a music docent in action with the children. Call Cathy Lampman at 650-854-5004, our school's MFM liaison, to set up a time for a classroom visit. Training for docents takes place in the fall each year. It includes basic music theory, songs and games, rhythm and movement activities, along with lesson planning, and other classroom skills. Visit the MFM website at www.mfm.org

NIMITZ 50TH ANNIVERSARY MURAL PROJECT
All Nimitz students are involved in creating the mural by making clay sea sculptures for the aquatic scene. If you would like to have a personalized fish sculpture permanently displayed in your name, please make a donation of $50 or more by May 7th. These contributions will be used to help restock our library with new books. This is a great way to make a mark in the history of Nimitz Elementary! We will start installation of the mural on the GLC wall the week of May 7th and continue the next 2 weeks until completed. If anyone is interested in helping students with the tiles and ceramic sculptures, please contact Tracy Burriss at Burriss_tracy@cupertino.k12.ca.us. Keep updated about the mosaic mural at http://www.nimitzpta.org/.

SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL NOMINATIONS
The School Site Council (SSC) is responsible for bringing together representatives of the school community to assess and improve the school. Some of the duties of the SSC are to review student achievement data, develop the school plan, and conduct the annual parent survey. The SSC is comprised of an equal number of parent and staff representatives. The SSC meets on the second Thursday of the month at 5:30 pm. Four seats are open for a term of two years beginning at the start of the 2007-08 school year. If you are interested in serving on the SSC for the next school year, or know of someone you would like to nominate, please complete the nomination form below. All nominees will be contacted to verify that they are willing to run for election. Please return the form to school by Friday, April 27th. If you have any questions, please contact Kristen Nelsen at 736-2180 ext. 158 or at Nelsen_Kristen@cupertino.k12.ca.us.
