Below is a minimum recommended shopping list for your student for the upcoming school year. Items are recommendations only and come from combining lists published by several department stores and non-profit organizations. Please take care and use discretion in purchasing appropriate items in each categories. For example, while most lists recommend scissors for all students grades K-5, the type of scissors for a K-1st grader should be simpler, smaller and rounder than one for a 4th - 5th grader. Remember also that in case of an emergency, you should submit at the beginning of each year to the school or the child's teacher, a new recent color photograph of your child, up-to-date emergency contact information on a card, any special medical information (include allergies, chronic conditions, insurance carrier and doctor if necessary), clearly printed mobile phone, and email address - and place all this inside a large, sealable ziploc bag. The school or teacher may also require that you provide some emergency rations such as a bottle of water and sealed package of dry snacks for your child to keep in this bag. In some cases of natural or man-made disasters, that ration may be the only source of nourishment the teacher may provide that child for 24 hours.
